Traffic and related tips:
As in every other field, Nepal's traffic rules are unclear and understood solely among its drivers. It happens that a bigger vehicle, a stronger one or just a daring individual will be the one that decides to overtake you at the most impossible moments. You will have to be extra cautious on Nepali roads. This is a great tip to use inside and outside the city, honk if you're going into a corner or if one is on your either sides. This notifies any overtaking vehicle coming from the opposite side that you're coming its way so it's prepared for you, and warns whoever is coming out of a small street to double check his sides before going ahead.
You should not speed in Nepal because the danger comes not from you but from reckless overtaking, sleepy or drunk drivers. These are not isolated cases, you will have to be extra careful for these factors and for goats, buffaloes, chickens, dogs and pedestrians who will continue to either stand on your way or walk in your direction even if you honk at them. No need to warn you about hitting cows, that should be an unforgivable sin that you will most definitely regret.
The petrol prices in Nepal are fairly good, counting a Euro per liter. The mileage of most motorbikes is a liter per 35 Kilometers. Petrol stations are widespread inside the cities and along the main highways. A shortage in Petrol can occur from time to time but would be known so one is prepared ahead.
There will be plenty of opportunities for breaks along the roads to marvel at the breathtaking scenery and to stop for all other needed breaks. Plenty ofhumblehotels and eateries will be on your way, where you can stay overnight or have a meal for less than 5 euro’s.If you intend to go to a less used highway it is advised to check the distance between stops on your way and your next destination. This, in case it gets dark, because the electricity shortage will not illuminate your way once the sun goes down. And it's also always better to know where you're heading and how long it will take in case you get any unpleasant happenings on theroad.
