Dakshinkali / Pharping

Dakshinkali Temple is located 22 kilometres outside of Kathmandu and about 1 kilometer away from the village of Pharping (a major Buddhist destination, filled with monasteries and a blend of history and myths). The temple is dedicated to the goddess Kali (black). Animal sacrifices, particularly of cockerels and uncastrated male goats, are the main way that the goddess is worshipped, and this is especially seen during the Dashain festival. This can also be observed during other auspicious days that fall under the Hindu Calendar.

For bikers: This day trip is composed of two stops, Dakshinkali and Pharping. The drive here is not only pleasant but can also be a great introduction to both the scenery and nature of Nepal as well as its roads and driving under different conditions. This trip can easily be combined with the Chobhar visit.
