Kodari
Kodari is a border crossing on the Nepal-China (Tibet) border. It’s located in Sindhupalchok District. The other side of the border is variously referred to as Zhangmu, Dram or Khasa (Chinese-Tibetan-Nepalese). Kodari is located at an altitude of 2,515 metres.
In ancient times, it was the starting point of a trans-Himalayan caravan route. Newar traders headed north from Kodari and after crossing Kuti pass, turned east to continue their journey across the Tibetan Plateau to Lhasa.
China built the 115 kilometres Kathmandu-Kodari Road, named Araniko Highway, during the 1963-67 period.
For bikers: This journey is an absolute treat. As every other trip in Nepal, you will be surrounded by hills, mountains, rivers, only this time waterfalls are much more majestic and sometimes will pour on the road you’re driving in. Only the last 25 kilometers of road are somewhat challenging, especially during the monsoon season. The trip takes around 4 hours.
