Pokhara
Pokhara Sub-Metropolitan City is the second largest city of Nepal and is situated about 200 km west of the capital Kathmandu. Pokhara is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Nepal. Three out of the ten highest mountains in the world — Dhaulagiri, Annapurna I and Manaslu — are situated within 30 miles (linear distance) of the city, so that the northern skyline of the city offers a very close view of the Himalayas. Due to its proximity to the Annapurna mountain range, the city is also a base for trekkers undertaking the Annapurna Circuit or a part of it.
Beside mountain related activities, Pokhara thanks to its location, population (the city hosts the biggest Tibetan camp in Nepal) and the kind of tourists that frequents it, offers much more in terms of relaxed activities. From temples to uphill peace pagodas, caves to different canoeing experiences in three different lakes, Pokhara has a general relaxed feel about it. For people looking for more adventurous activities, this city happens to be the hotspot for paragliding.
For bikers: The ride from Kathmandu to Pokhara takes about 4 to 5 hours (without breaks). The journey is without doubt among the most impressive ones especially as you get nearer to the destination. On the way you will drive alongside rivers, surrounded by hills and different sceneries and as you approach Pokhara, the mountain tops start to uncover themselves behind the hills.
200 kilometers towards the south of Pokhara is Lumbini (the birthplace of Lord Buddha). The journey takes about 8 hours. This journey is particularly interesting as the scenery shifts from high mountains to flat lands. Along the way you will witness some of the most captivating bridges. Pokhara is also the starting point for the high altitude tour that we offer that goes through the Annapurnas to reach a 3600 meters of altitude.
