Namo Buddha

Namo Buddha is famous because of its history and significance to the Buddhist faith. The legends tell a story of a Prince who despite his status decides to sacrifice himself to feed a tiger and her hungry cubs. The prince through his compassion saved the creatures from a fatal fate, on the expense of his. This selfless prince is later reborn in Lumbini as Gautam Buddha, the founder of Buddhism.

Namo Buddha has definitely its special aura. This can be felt especially in the monastery, reconstructed on the site around prayer times, recited by monks and accompanied by horns and drums. The view is wonderful, as the Stupa is constructed on top of a hill where allegedly the sacrifice took place. The road to Namo Buddha itself is very pleasant as you get a great view over the hills and mountains. It is a jewel located not too far from the hustle of Kathmandu. Unlike other touristic areas, Namo Buddha retains its peace and quietness.

For bikers: If you can only spare some time off, a day trip to Namo Buddha suffices to give you great calm and wonderful experience. The journey is great and the distance is in your favor, as it only takes about an hour to reach from Kathmandu (43 Kilometers). This destination can be easily combined with bhaktapur and the World’s tallest Shiva statue (both are on the way).
